Selfishness – Is The Country Drunk?
On the home front an alcoholic, driven by his addiction, will deny his family food, clothing, and shelter and spend his entire paycheck on booze. His selfish and self-centered behavior denies those he professes to love of any money for education, family vacations, or extra activities for the children. The house and the family may be falling apart and the drunk continues on, day after day, with the insanity. And he will fabricate every kind of delusional story within his power to rationalize and justify his insane actions.
Now imagine living in a community where the local administrators are all alcoholics and treat the taxpayer’s money as if it were their own. They have, what appears to be, an almost endless supply of other people’s money to do with as they will. In some jurisdictions the party may be small and kept behind closed doors, while in others it might be a free-for-all. But stay with the vision for a moment and then expand the notion to include the entire country. What would our world be like if a handful of drunks could manipulate the system and level taxation on the wealth of great nations in order to keep their party going?
There is little benefit in this scenario for the taxpayer. Would any taxpayer stand for it? Would anyone of us want to work our entire lives to see people derived of all opportunity as the wealth of our nation was drank up by those running our governments? Would anyone of us tolerate our elected officials staging a huge, never ending party that carries on, year after year, at our expense while we are denied education for our children, decent roads, and reasonable health care?
Now switch the notion of a government immersed in drunken debauchery where a majority of the budget is spent on drugs, sex, and rock ‘n roll to a situation where defense contractors are being given the money instead. The party is war and we are being lied to and deceived in order to keep that party going. Yes we have to defend ourselves but since 1945 there have been 23 million people killed in war. 90% of them have been civilians and 75% of those women or children. In fact, more than three times as many people have died in the last 90 years in war than in the preceding 500 years.
Do we have that many enemies? Or do we create enemies in order to maintain the greedy, insane, and selfish behavior?
With nearly $900 Billion in defense related spending the hogs are at the trough. Do you not think for a second those who profit from war want to see peace in our world? Have you had enough? Or do you want one for the road?
Look at your country. Look at your world. Look at your children. Is the party over? Isn’t it time to sober up? Isn’t it time for change?
